Elvis Party

Planning an Elvis party?  You’ve come to the right place! (Good choice by the way on the Elvis party theme…people are going to have a blast!)  So what do you need to put on a great Elvis party!  Let’s start with the two most important elements of a party, decorations and of course food!

With the decorations you have a couple of directions you can go.  Since Elvis is known as the King of Rock and Roll, and came on the scene in the 1950’s, both rock and roll and 50’s themed decorations work great.  I would suggest more specific Elvis decorations though.  Posters of Elvis are usually pretty easy to come by and you can print off tons of pictures from the internet.  Elvis wall hangings are fun as well as the life size cardboard cutouts.  Initially you may not think of them as decorations, but Elvis, Rock and Roll, or 50’s plates, cups, napkins, etc. certainly add to the Elvis party theme and truly should not be left out when thinking about the decorations.

Next comes everybody’s favorite part of the party, the food!  No matter whether you are going with just a full on dinner or just snacks, you have to have peanut butter and banana sandwiches.  They were Elvis’s favorite!  The key with the peanut butter and banana sandwiches is to toast them.  That’s how Elvis liked them!
Next you have to decide what you are going to do at your party.  For sure you are going to have to have some Elvis music.  Make sure that you have a CD that you can play while people are arriving, and depending on what other activities you are doing, you can have it playing in the background.

If you would like to watch a concert for one of your activities, the 68 Comeback Special is a crowd pleaser as well as the Aloha From Hawaii Concert.  You also don’t necessarily have to watch it as one of the activities at the party.  You can just have it on in the background in place of the music and people can watch if the want.  The fun thing about using the concert instead of a CD is that you actually get to see Elvis, not just hear him, and that was a huge part of his appeal.  He was such a great and charismatic performer.

Another fun activity to have at an Elvis party is an Elvis puzzle.  Put this on a table somewhere so that people can sit and visit for a few minutes, put in some puzzle pieces, and then move on to other things.  It can be just a casual ongoing activity that people can do at their leisure while they visit and munch on goodies.

Name that Elvis Song is a great game to play at an Elvis party.  Get your Elvis CD and play the first few bars of a song.  See if anybody can guess it.  If nobody can, play a bit more.  This can be way fun if you divide up into teams and keep score.
Finish the line is another fun game to play at an Elvis party.  Use your Elvis CD and play a song for a bit.  Then randomly push pause and have everyone/a person finish the line.  This can also be very fun if you divide up into teams and keep score.

For those that are in more of a low key party mood, you can always watch an Elvis movie.  Elvis starred in dozens of films.  A few fun ones are Viva Las Vegas, Clambake, and Girls, Girls, Girls.

There a lots of other fun things you can include in your Elvis party.  Elvis Karaoke is a blast!  There are lots of manufactured Elvis games out there.  An “Elvis Hips” contest will get everybody excited.  Elvis Pictionary is fun and easy to make.  Giving awards for the best Elvis impersonation, best Elvis lip curl, or best Elvis outfit will be a hit.  If you have a cardboard cutout, you can have each guest get their picture with Elvis.  If you know somebody that can do a good Elvis impersonation, have them call the party and pass the phone around letting your guests talk to “Elvis.” I did this at an Elvis party once and people loved it!

There are some many fun things you can do.  Let your imagination run wild.  It is so easy with such an iconic person like Elvis Presley.  With great decorations, music, peanut butter and banana sandwiches and Elvis you can’t go wrong, people are bound to have fun and your Elvis party will be a hit!
